Splitting Hairs And Breaking Promises – Don’t Laywer Them Bro

Posted on Updated on

Well, I believe it is time for me to address an elephant in the room. Are you lubed up Starr? Don’t worry bro, I jest! Sort of.
In the past two months a startling number of revelations have slowly and quietly been released about Shroud of the Avatar. Kind of like a test fart, just let it out slowly, quietly, then take a big wiff and see if it will melt the paint off the walls and if anyone else smells it. Well, this smells like fucking shit guys. I’m talking to you Devs.
Up until this point, I’ve pretty much given them a pass on a lot of things and focused on the community members and dick moderators which really turn the community sour for a lot of people. I think the reason was that I believed that at least in the end they wanted to produce a decent product with the limited resources they have. When that is the case they can easily be forgiven for minor annoyances and complaints like graphics quality, keyboard commands, chat systems, overland map bullshit, you know the shit real fucking gamers don’t actually care about because they are too busy playing a decent game.
So, some of the more interesting things have recently been nerfed. Nerfed from original Kickstarter goals at that, and I’m unhappy with them for this. What things, you ask of Insane, and Membrane answers:
  • Unable to meet promise of Unity asset packs.
  • Redefined the Developer level KS goal of Creating an NPC, due to resourcing issues on the project.
  • Introduction of the Row Houses.
These significantly de-value the investment many have made into the game, and even if that wasn’t the case the removal of the Unity packs and customized NPC is a pretty obvious slap in the face on top of that for those of us who wished to contribute in the project in some way.
So basically, they have made a promise to you that if you give them money you can help build their game for them. Seems like a win-win, they get cash and you help with the tedious crowd shit right? I guess not, they can’t even seem to manage a simple thing like data collection and entry for the NPC stuff. Christ guys, give me a fucking notepad program, a web server and some JSON and I can solve that problem for you inside of 30 mins.
On top of this, the first time that they directly changed something from the Kickstarter campaign, they were caught changing the original text around the goal. That, was a fucking dick head move guys, all us out there and you think that would go unnoticed? Now, they are just splitting hairs and re-defining what is already there. I will give you an example.
The Developer Pledge description from Kickstarter:

Want to be a part of the Development process? This is the level for you! Gain access to the private Developer Chat/Forums and help participate in guiding the game (estimated Developer Chat/Forums access in April 2013). You also get to help create a character in the game as well as name them. When everything’s said and done, we’ll put together a PDF document of various concepts and design documents.

Notice, it was said we could help create AND name a character. Here is the definition of create:

To cause to come into being, as something unique that would not naturally evolve or that is not made by ordinary processes.

What has Portalarium said on the topic? We won’t get to create a NPC in Shroud of the Avatar, we will only get prompted when a new area becomes “available” and submit names for NPCs en masse AND first come first serve basis! LUL!! We might as well bend right over and let them go to town on us guys. Can’t design the look of the NPC, what it wears, what it says, how to interact with it. Nope, just mail them some names and hope you get lucky.
What did they have to say about all this? Sorry? Not a fucking chance you nub, lulz. They claimed that the text in the Developer description didn’t include “NPC dialogue” and that it isn’t “feasible” as a backer reward. Now, I can’t and locate where it expands on this NPC stuff, but I know for a fact they were going to send us forums to fill out and hand back to them, they did originally plan to do this for us. Just like they did plan on working on the Unity asset packs.
I wonder how many more hairs will be split in the Kickstarter pledge descriptions by the end of this project?

Cannabilism And Babies And Sex – OH MY

Posted on Updated on

So here is this quote(proof at bottom of page):

“While we are at it why don we include realistic sex and pregnancies! Freshly cooked baby flesh… mmm
sounds tasty bro”

Riiigghtttt. Bad taste! Sorry for the pun 😛 So that post sat there for quite a bit of time, it was posted on Sunday 1:04PM and sat there until at least Tuesday around 11:00AM.

Why wasn’t this cleaned up? This is a thread posted by a Portalarium executive, and the amount of fucking effort going into checking these seemingly important updates directly from the staff is a right joke. So not only do the Shroud of the Avatar moderators pursue their personal agendas and harassment of  community members, they are just flat out ineffective at the very core of their job. All of the time.

No big deal you say? Well it is to some, and when this kind of stuff is left to fester for days it does nothing to help the image of Portalarium or the Shroud of the Avatar game.

This is totally mad. Cannot believe that this is liked. And tolerated. Maybe I have pledged the wrong game

Agreed. I’ve been pretty much staying away myself lately. It’s getting harder and harder to even read this forum
any more.

Yeah I only ever come in once in a great while. Certain members of this forum and especially the moderators
make it easy for me to just sit back and read the nice friendly e-mails that get delivered to me, rather than log in
here and prepare for a flaming banning war.

It appears to me that we have for this forum some rules for politeness, some rules against insults but there is a
lack in ethic rules I’m still very upset!

-Sir Cabirus

So Portalarium. Why can you not action this simple bloody issue? You tell us, ohh they are just fellow volunteer community members, ohh they don’t get paid, ohh it is a big job, ohh fucking QQ. At least prioritize the fuckin Dev’s posts you slackers!

Well the post was cleaned up, FINALLY, so of course click the BACKUP to access the unmodified post.

Sorry for the colors, I’ve turned off the CSS on SotA forum. Their background image is too slow.

It Isn’t Just Me – I’m Not Alone

Posted on Updated on

You know, it isn’t just me out here slinging some critical thoughts at some of the moves Portalarium and some members of that community all alone. There are others, and there are issues which a lot of people are concerned about.

I am not %100 sure who this is yet, but I’ve got some good ideas. The person writes very well, and doesn’t generally attack some of the community twats as personally as I do, so if you want straight up information without my dramatic flare by all means head over here and read some of this!

“But wait, not only has Portalarium failured to deliver on its promises, but they stealthily reworded the description of the reward over 1 year after their Kickstarter concluded! Starr also had the following to excuse to make about their behavior:”

“Now I probably don’t have to explain this, as you the reader are most likely intelligent enough to realize this yourself, but some if not all of these row plots may in fact turn out to be even more valuable than the village plots included at the Citizen level ($500) by virtue of the fact that they exist within the city, a prime location with plenty of traffic, perfect for a shop or other establishment.”

Great site, lots of SotA content including a personal interview with Lord British himself. Great writer, awesome personality, if he was a blonde chic, we’d be married already! Follow him on twitter also @ihatemmorpgs

“There seems to be a recent trend among content creators on the internet of removing public feedback opportunities. Their variable explanations as to why they remove comments and ratings…”

“We’ve got a big fucking problem. has created the next generation of cam-girls, and they’re undermining feminism at an alarming rate. I’m talking, of course, about the e-prostitutes…”

So it is good to be reading content from what are seemingly like minded individuals. Lets have some more of this!

Father Lum Quotes A Comment Of Mine – Video Link

Posted on

My Fatha from anotha Trolla has quoted me in the video above, I’ve had better quotes, but most of them aren’t really PG-13 now are they 😛

“The Shroud of the Avatar forum is a den of terror and the most poorly moderated community I have ever been in. See my blog.”

Pretty funny video, surprised that I had the first mention there, thanks for that Daddy Lum 😛  Also glad to see you guys have a sense of humor! I mean you must have a pretty good sense of humor right, because you keep letting those ass clown mods of yours delete every post in sight!

My opinion, I think the one Stephen read about a “child’s first drawing” was hilarious lol.

SotA Forum Thread About Over Moderation Gets…MODERATED.

Posted on Updated on

First, a little back story. An upstanding member of the Shroud of the Avatar community has asked about function in the forum which is no longer doing what it did in THIS post. Yeah, it is a valid point as well as natural for someone to ask about a feature in which they once had. But I know from personal experience, you had better watch out what you ask for int he SotA forum, because if it isn’t for an autographed copy of my banned posts by the moderators, it is likely you are about to be moderated yourself.

Topic: Forum Activity Tracker

“would it be possible to have this reinstated?

I’m sure there was a reason for having it removed, but that feature was a wonderful way to get insight into what
the Developers were interested in and following. Otherwise, we have no idea what they are interested in unless
they post.

Transparency FTW!”

SotA Dev, and orig Ultima Online troll, Lum responded:

“It’s on my task list for R9. It’s of lower priority than other game features but it is still on the list!”

Lum went back and edited his post later and injected more information in it. Sometime after that, the thread started to get cleaned up by a moderator(or the user who made a smart remark towards Bubonic cleaned it up himself). I can see that I missed at least one post in there somehow.

Lum’s edit:

“It was removed because it showed WAY too much, such as when a forum admin was researching a specific user’s account info. We’ll try to restore the thread-tracking while still preserving a modicum of privacy.”

Bubonic later then replied:

“that part of his post was added in Edit after joviex responded.”

So, some how in some way in someone’s world that post there by Bubonic was not only enough to have that post deleted, the entire thread cleaned up, and locked down, but also caused a moderator(I am told FireLotus this time) so butt hurt that all of Bubonic’s recent posts were reviewed and in an act of retrospective aggression against Bubonic. Further posts of his were Moderated after the fact! The post has been copied into my SotA Forum Backup area.

As a result of the post above being deleted, Bubonic was understandingly a bit taken back, he then posted in the forum topic Why all the Moderating. For some reason this post is actually still not locked and deleted lol. Anyway, Bubonic’s post in that thread was deleted. Congratulations Bubonic, you are now on the Shroud of the Avatar Moderator SHITLIST.

Here was his post:

“the moderating seems to be getting broader and less forgiving, rather than the other way around, unfortunately.”

Wow, harsh words and so much more trolling than every other post in that threat by like a billion baby jesus’!!! You can see the backup here in the SotA Forum Backup area.

Good luck Bubonic, you’ll need it.

Portalarium Admits To Going Back On A Kickstarter Promise

Some very interesting things starting to take place now. I will let you read all about it here on the SotA Sucks blog first as it was broken there, while I get caught up on this matter, this starts down a pretty bad road for Shroud of the Avatar backers…
